Which is why I do not believe eliminating the voucher program is going to help. Middle class families will simply move, they have the financial ability to do so and our local suburbs do have better public school systems. Those who are poor, and who did utilize the voucher program are forced to either homeschool their children, use one of the charter schools that have not been shut down or to send their child to a public school that is clearly failing. To me, you make the school system better first, that will encourage parents to want their children to attend rather than placing these parents in a position where the options are so stark. I realize it's popular to make vouchers and the charter school system the "bad guys" in all of this, and I know there are questionable issues regarding political donations. Yet, the bottom line from a parental perspective is, if the public school system performed as it could, parents would have no need for either vouchers or charter schools. I'm one of the "lucky" ones. The school my daughter attends is not in academic emergency, yet I know many parents who have either used a charter school or a voucher to escape a failing school with teaching staff and administration that I would never ever entrust my child to.Anonymoushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/00606533906583651054noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-13368104.post-55463362291279631232007-03-17T16:49:00.000-04:002007-03-17T16:49:00.000-04:00Good discussion of this issue!
