Blogosphere Notes

Once again, things are changing out there. Here is a survey

New and Newly Discovered.

I've talked about Watchdevil which, as expected, is getting better. I'm planning to add it, but am a little perplexed as to what category he fits in.

I got an email from the blogger at Liberal Candy. He lives here in Akron, though his blog is pretty much exclusively national politics.

Len put me on to Left of Dayton which is pretty much way left of Dayton. Still, the first five posts show some solid work, and it's good to see more blogging come from Dayton.

IdeaTrek is mostly a travel/lifestyle blog originating in Toledo. But the proprietor added the blog to both BlogNetNews and LeftyBlogs and appears to be moving toward more political posts. So, I'll mention it. There.

AkronFeedsNow

The last blog news post included a kvetch about the lack of RSS feeds on the new AkronNewsNow blogs. Site administrator Bryan Siegfried commented that feeds were on the way. He and I had an email correspondence this week which concluded as follows:

Meanwhile, Clogging the Tubes, referenced above, is yet another new ANN blog, this one about internet arcana.

Transitions

Akron blogger (for the past year) Marcia at The Pink Shoe is moving to New York in a week. Cincinnati-Based blogger Dave Radio Free Newport has moved in up here and will start blogging soon. Best to Marcia and welcome to Dave.

He didn't want me to make a big deal about it so I won't say WELCOME BACK YELLOW DOG SAMMY!! WOO! WOO! WOO! I respect people's wishes so I won't do that. And by the way, Jeff has fixed his feeds.

Changes and Coming Changes to the Sidebar.

Mostly I want to point out that I've executed my half of the link swap Carrie Callahan and I agreed to in comments earlier this week.

I'm also planning to add a category for local media-based blogs as the best way to handle ANN, Eric Mansfield, PD blogs and anything on Ohio.com that isn't embarassing.

Made Ya Look

I've known someone was tracking back from Ohio.com's new lefty blog Blog of Mass Destruction. Now blogger The Reverend has responded. Not content with intemperance, and borderline plagiarism, he's now added a new feature to the blog: dickishness.

First off, talking about another blog's criticism but refusing to link to it is not only childish, it also does a disservice to your readers who don't know what the hell you are talking about.

Second, the argument is so lame as to defy additional comment. For both fumbling logic and arrogant tone, it really has to be seen to be believed.

Blog of MD is apparently more interested in being above the blogosphere than part of it. Oh, exalted MSM chosen one! Show us the way!

Seriously, if The Reverend thinks the blogosphere is beneath him, I'm happy to ignore him completely from here on out.

Thanks for the mention :)

Thanks for the shout-out, Pho. My recent posts have been far more personal of late, mainly because folks have been asking about the move, dissertation defense, etc. But I'll be back on the usual topics soon.

The Blog of Mass Destruction post was unbelievably weak, especially in playing the "what are these dorks upset about" card. Tooldom.

People who understand blogs know this to be true: There can be nothing more frustrating than trying to make template changes you think should be easy, but never turn out that way. Good luck.

I spend more time than I used to perusing blogs. I just got an email from Brasscheck pointing me to an old friend, Susie Bright, and her blog, with its most excellent dissection of how we might best understand the Jeff Guckert/Gannon story. Susie has been thinking and writing about sex and its commodification, as well as the endless permutations of desire and identity, for a loooong time now. She’s a crisp writer and a clear thinker. If you want to go beyond the first blush obsessive coverage of the scandal, and now go deeper into how a blatant gay male escort can have penetrated the White House press corps so thoroughly, you can do no better than to check her brief essay out.
